DEVELOPMENTAL SUPPORT WORKER (DSWs)

Developmental Support Workers are responsible for supporting persons with disabilities, which require them to assist with planning, teaching life skills, helping participate with recreation and leisure activities, monitoring and maintaining support.

Qualifications Required:

  • Completion of high school or college diploma.
  • Medication administration certificate.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate or Basic cardiac life support (BCSL).
  • Checked for criminal record.

Skills Required:

  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Flexibility in taking shifts.
  • Ability to work with individuals and families.
  • Consistent and good attendance record.
  • Gather information and prepare reports, provide personal support services to persons with special needs.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Reading text, Documentation, writing or oral communications, decision making and working under The Director of Care.
  • Assist with serving meals
NANNIES/ BABY SITTERS

Nannies or Baby Sitters are responsible for taking care of babies or children for which they have a love of doing.

Qualifications Required:

  • Highschool Diploma.

Skills/Duties Required:

  • Have basic child care skills as well as having patience and energy.
  • Keep the children safe.
  • Entertain them in fun ways.
  • They are able to keep control of children without the use of anger.
  • Doing the children’s washing and ironing, changing and making the children’s beds.
  • Preparing the children’s meals/snacks and keeping the playing areas clean.
  • Shopping for groceries, errands.
  • Reading stories books scheduling activities for children.
  • Managing play dates.
  • Bring the children to and from school.
  • Helping with homework.
  • Attending any appointments or events that the child is required to attend.
PERSONAL SUPPORT WORKERS (PSWs)

Personal Support Workers perform essential duties including but not limited to the following.

Qualifications Required:

  • PSW Certificate

Skills/Duties but not limited to the following:

  • Assist with ambulationé mobility.
  • Oral hygiene/ skin care.
  • Dressing changes.
  • Meal preparation.
  • Assist with feeding.
  • Medication reminders.
  • Light cleaning.
  • Socialization.
  • Assist with activities of daily living.
  • Escort to medical appointments.
  • Pick up from hospital.
  • Care giver relief/ respite.
  • Run errands.
  • Sitter.
  • Shopping.
REGISTERED NURSES (RNs)

Registered Nurses are responsible for assessing patient health problems and needs. They help develop and implement nursing care plans, advise on prevention, and maintaining medical records as well as possibly being in specialized areas of expertise.

Qualifications Required:

  • Current certificate of competence as Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses.
  • Good understanding of the College of Nurses of Ontario`s standard of care
  • Current basic cardiac life support certification (BCLS).

Skills Required:

  • Good organizational skills and ability to manage workload.
  • Experience with window operating systems-Microsoft Office.
  • Assess patient thoroughly both physically, neurologically and accurately, also assess patient`s family and significant other for emotional needs.
  • Individualized care plan related to patient diagnosis.
  • Implement plan of care.
  • Evaluate the effect of any interventions and adjust care accordingly.
  • Project a professional image at all times.
  • Strong ability to accept assignment and give accurate report on time.
  • Dressing changes.
  • Maintain patients and co-workers confidentiality at all times.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide culturally sensitive and senior friendly patient care.
  • Treat all patients with respect and dignity.
  • Able to function independently and as an active member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Maintain accurate objective patient records.
REGISTERED PRACTICAL NURSE (RPNs)

Licensed practical nurses (LPNs) help physicians and registered nurses (RNs) care for patients. They have the technical knowledge to perform  nursing duties, but they may also make appointments, maintain patient records, and perform basic clerical duties. Their work allows doctors and registered nurses to devote their time to patient care that requires specialized knowledge.

Qualifications Required:

  • Current certificate of competence as Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses.
  • Good understanding of the College of Nurses of Ontario`s standard of care.
  • Current basic cardiac life support certification (BCLS).

Skills Required:

  • Assess patient thoroughly and accurately; also, assesses patient’s family, significant other for emotional needs.
  • Document and record any changes in client’s condition.
  • Medication administration.
  • Dressing change.
  • Checking client’s vital signs such as pulse, respiration and blood pressure.
  • Assist doctors and registered nurses with procedures.
  • Care of foley catheters.
  • Application of condom catheters.
  • Care of colostomy bags.
  • Infection prevention measures.
  • Repositioning of clients.
  • Assisting client with bath or shower; as well as performing bed bath.
  • Collecting urine and stool samples for testing.
  • Provide safety and health education to individual and their family members.
  • Feeding of clients.
